The funds come in through individual donations as well as organizations and churches across ROCOR, who are continuing to pray for the sufferers and hold plate collections at services.
“In Washington we had a plate collection after both Liturgies at the St. John the Baptist cathedral,” said FFA Executive Director and the cathedral rector, Archpriest Victor Potapov.
“Russian and American parishioners prayed for the quick alleviation for those suffering from the wildfires in Russia. In our appeal to the parishioners we quoted His Holiness Patriarch Kyrill’s wonderful words about the need to assist our fellow man, and that fact that by helping our neighbor, we are helping Christ. We are also helping ourselves, because charity is pleasing to God. When we are charitable, we fulfill the Evangelic truth.
I would like to thank all the children of the Orthodox Church Abroad, who despite being so far from Russia, keep the wildfire victims in their prayers, and contribute their mite to this God-pleasing endeavor.“
